Programme Introduction

Financial Services companies recognise that creating value in services is largely determined by intangibles such as technical competence, imagination, creativity and ideas. Creating value by combining digital, financial and social networks is an ideal way for firms to generate a competitive advantage internationally.

The Professional Certificate in Leveraging Innovation in Global Financial Services is designed to foster a path-breaking learning culture where quality, integrity, initiative, skills, a risk taking attitude and eagerness for self-development feature prominently in the participants’ professional lives. Built around the identification, initiation, stimulation and management of innovative ventures in financial services, this programme aims to nurture a spirit of innovation, help individuals understand risk and manage change.

Learning Objectives

On completion of this programme candidates will be able to:

  • Describe the theory and practice in relation to the level of innovation (product/services) within the International Financial Services sector;
  • Explain the links between innovation and investment in project development;
  • Analyse the factors which influence investment and innovation and how they impact on value creation within a Financial Services firm (drawing on theory and practice);Draw up a proposal for a new product (investment) for approval and evaluate the feasibility of this proposal and how it will be managed;
  • Summarise current strategies adopted by Financial Services firms in relation to promoting innovation for investment purposes;
  • Evaluate the viability of new product / service innovation proposals within the International Financial Services sector; 
  • Communicate clearly (verbally and in writing) the essence of innovation and the factors that promote an innovative culture within the Financial Services sector/firm; and
  • Pursue more detailed research in relation to innovation as related to investment and the sector in general.

This programme offers a unique opportunity for those wishing to be identified as key drivers of innovation within their organisation.

Programme Structure

This programme is delivered in an integrated manner to help participants become familiar with the process of identifying, initiating and managing innovative projects. Learning takes place through a combination of lectures, discussions and interactive workshops.

Lectures will take place in the in the International Financial Services Centre (IFSC), Dublin.

Assessment

Assessment is via a practical project. Participants illustrate through a project (each conducted by teams of 3-5 people) how they propose to create value for an organisation. This project offers participants an opportunity to identify and implement innovative ideas within their area of expertise and is presented to an invited gathering of senior management, colleagues, academics and a panel of industry experts.

What are the entry requirements?

As this is a graduate level programme, the entry requirement is a prior business degree (or cognate discipline). Alternatively, candidates with three years quality experience in financial services may also apply.

To have maximum effect places on the programme are limited to 20 participants and will be filled on a first come, first served basis.

Programme Leader - Dr. Finbarr Bradley

Dr. Finbarr Bradley has extensive experience designing and delivering business education programmes. For the past few years, he has held positions at Professorship level at both the UCD Smurfit Business School and the Economics Department, NUI Maynooth. He has an engineering degree from UCC, an MBA from Syracuse University and a PhD in Finance from the Stern School, New York University (NYU). He worked as an engineer with GE in the US, Korea and Ireland. He was Professor of Finance at DCU where he set up the MSc in Investment and Treasury programme and a multilingual degree in Finance, Computing and Languages.
