Introduction
Corporate governance particularly in the context of financial institutions is arguably one of the most important items currently being debated in the international financial press and related media. It is widely acknowledged that inadequate Corporate Governance was a contributing factor to the financial crisis and resulting turmoil. In order to ensure robust governance arrangements are in place with the aim of preventing or minimising the risk of a future crisis, the Central Bank of Ireland has recently published the Corporate Governance Code for Credit Institutions and Insurance Undertakings 2010 (“Central Bank Corporate Governance Code”). This Master Class will examine the Corporate Governance issues which are central to the Central Bank Corporate Governance Code and are of relevance to senior financial services practitioners and stakeholders.
This Master Class in Governance in International Financial Services is designed to provide candidates with the ability to:
-
Understand the implications to their organisation of the requirements set out in the Central Bank of Ireland’s Corporate Governance Code for Credit Institutions and Insurance Firms;
-
Implement sound governance practices within their own organisation.
This Master Class will be delivered in the form of an interactive workshop, with emphasis placed on the communication of key principles and the application of these principles using examples and illustrations.
The above will be considered in the context of governance lessons from the global financial crisis and emerging international best practice in corporate governance for financial institutions
This Master Class will appeal to candidates in such roles as:
