Programme Introduction

The Funds Executive Management Programme is designed to assist companies with management succession planning by identifying and developing key staff. The programme exposes high potential managers to the most powerful leadership development experiences such as 1:1 coaching, 360 degree feedback, personality profiling, mentoring and simulated role play.

Uniquely, the assessment, training and development of management skills are facilitated and tested in a Funds Industry environment.

Programme Overview

Candidates will be supported with a number of interactive workshops built around competencies derived from analysis of industry training needs undertaken by the IFIA HR & Training Committee. These workshops include:

360 degree Feedback and Work Style Preferences

This workshop helps to develop self awareness and is backed up with 1:1 coaching with a business psychologist. The coaching relationship remains throughout the programme. A follow-up 360 degree feedback, which evaluates change, is conducted four to six months after the start of the programme.

Gains Trust

This workshop helps the candidate to build relationships that last. It considers strategies to gain trust within teams and to motivate people to change through recognition, support and encouragement. It guides managers to recognise and understand what drives their individual team members and to diagnose team dynamics. This module will be invaluable to those who interact with others, both in an individual or a team context.

Drives Performance

This workshop helps the candidate to give firm, clear direction and to motivate people to deliver. It offers guidance on using appropriate leadership and influencing tactics and will give a clear understanding of how to maximise the performance of others to get results. This module will have particular significance for all those in leadership positions who need to exert control and authority over others and are responsible for delivering results through their teams

An Assessment for Development Process

This is a highly interactive workshop involving realistic, industry relevant simulations and coaching. Candidates work in teams of three and are supported by professional role players and a business psychologist (ratio of one psychologist to three candidates). The aim of this workshop is to help candidates to test their skills, get precise personalised feedback and support as they develop action plans to enable them to continue their self and leadership development.

Drive and Resilience

This workshop focuses on the psychology of performance in pressurised, results oriented, service environments. Drawing on sports psychology and research of executive wellbeing, it helps candidates to enhance their resilience to enable them to deal effectively with pressure, demanding deadlines and changing environments, while maintaining the confidence of their colleagues and teams.

Courage and Innovation

This workshop focuses on the art of change management and continuous improvement. It helps the candidates to ensure superior service to clients by getting the team thinking of innovative solutions, while maintaining service.

Commercial Nous

This workshop is about being entrepreneurial and developing sound commercial and strategic thinking. Drawing on the views of senior members of the industry from the IFIA Council, the workshop focuses on the direction of the industry, competitive strategies and the importance of alliances and networks.

Who should undertake the Funds Executive Management Programme?

This programme suits managers who have been identified within their own organisation as having leadership potential but who need to build self awareness and interpersonal skills before taking on roles of greater responsibility. People who are leading or involved in significant change initiatives will also greatly benefit from this programme.

Programme Delivery

Workshops will take place in the International Financial Services Centre (IFSC), Dublin.

Line Manager Involvement

To aid transfer of learning and to encourage genuine change, candidates’ managers are included at key stages to ensure learning is transferred to the workplace. Managers of candidates must be prepared to:

  • Attend an initial orientation evening.
  • Agree goals for the programme with the candidate.
  • Provide 360 degree feedback.
  • Validate the findings of the assessment for development process.
  • Attend two follow up coaching meetings (three-way meeting with the business psychologist and the candidate); one at the end of the second month of the programme, the other at the end of six months.
  • Sponsor the candidate to take on new challenges in consideration of the advice of the business psychologist.

What are the Entry Requirements?

The Funds Executive Management Programme is for middle to senior managers. A typical candidate would be a fund administration subject expert with a minimum of 3 – 5 years experience, who manages a team of people and has potential to progress to a senior level within the industry within the next 5 years.

To have maximum effect, places on this programme are limited and will be filled on a first come, first served basis.
